United Active Living Foundation
Active aging supports older adults in leading lives that are as full, active and healthy as possible regardless of age or health conditions. Active aging has the potential to shatter ageist stereotypes, shift healthcare focus from a medical model to a social/wellness model, and direct the collective wisdom of older adults.
Active aging, as described by the World Health Organization, allows people to realize their potential for physical, social and mental well-being throughout the life course and to participate in society, while providing them with adequate protection, security and care when they need.
The Foundation will undertake the following activities:
- Financially support post-secondary and other academic institutions by investing in applied research in areas of practical concern and immediate relevance to older adults and their families.
- Communicate and share relevant information and key learnings gained from research and other advances in the professional field of gerontology.
- Support older adults who find themselves in unexpected and dire circumstances that threaten their ability to remain in their current residence and/or receive necessary medical care.
